There are ways that can help you get out of your mood. Not all of these 7 tips are going to help but I recommend trying each one. Try and find one that works for you. 1. Exercise This is possibly the hardest and quickest way to get motivated. It's extremely difficult (from my personal experience) to have have the motivation to go and exercise. Especially when you're unmotivated, in the first place. You just have to do it. Running, walking, pushups, squats or whatever gets your blood pumping. Im pretty keen on tennis so thats my go to exercise. After you have finished some serious exercise you get a natural high, sometimes called a "runners high". Use this high to get some motivation. 2. Don't Complain Lets be honest guys. Have you ever heard someone bitching about something, I'm sure you have. Did you really care about their complaint. The hard reality is not many really care about your complaints. The whole point of this tip is just don't complain out loud. Keep your personal complaints to yourself. And now the part that will give you motivation... Keep that bottled up rage inside you. And then let it out. But you have to be doing your job or your goal. For me it might be editing or filming. I find when you let out this built up rage you quickly transfer it into motivation. And suddenly when you have finished your goal, you get this sense that your complaint has gone. Suddenly you feel like you're on top of the world. Try this. I don't know if it will work for you. But it works for me. 3. Disconnect More specifically, disconnect from social media. This one works for me every time. We are all connected by the internet today. We all have that one tab open with a social media browser. For me it's Facebook. I don't care what yours is. BUT SHUT IT OFF! Social media is the greatest distraction we have. You have to turn it off when you work. The temptation to just flick through Twitter or Instagram is too great. This tip isn't really giving you motivation. It is stopping distractions. Therefore keeping you motivated. I had to include this though, it's such an important tip. 4. Music Turn on your favourite music. But make sure it's on a playlist. You don't want to be changing songs every 2 minutes. This is a personal favourite of mine. I am listening to music right now as I write this. I cannot explain how music motivates me but it does. I find it has a bigger effect too. Music focuses you. It helps you keep your motivation for longer. I struggle to sit down and edit without background music. I just feel bored and unmotivated. Now this is my personal favourite but I didn't put it first for one reason. I know every can't listen to music and work. It just doesn't work for everyone. I feel like 50% of people work well with music and 50% don't. I won't try and force you to try this if you know it won't work. 4.1 Turn off Music (bonus tip) Turn off your music. I put this tip in because it works for some people. But it doesn't work for me. Experiment, find out what works for you. 5. Celebrate How often have you achieved something brilliant and not celebrated. This is something that I constantly do. I need to celebrate more. The concept by celebrating is that is causes your brain to produce dopamine, which is a hormone which causes happy feelings. It's probably best to perform your celebration is a private place. Unless you want some weird looks. It doesn't matter what or how you celebrate. It's your mental attitude. 6. Be Inspired I recently posted an article on who influences me. This tip relates strongly to that post, I recommend you have a read here. Inspiration is a awesome way to get off your arse. Find someone that inspires you, for me it's Philip Bloom. Look at their work, think about how you could achieve what they achieve. Tell yourself you will get to their level. This is the way I inspire myself when filming or editing. There is one down side to this tactic. It's possible to convince yourself that you won't reach your inspiration's level. You cannot let this happen. Everything is possible, remember that. The only person holding you back is yourself. 7. Just Do It Some times as smart, intelligent humans we over think. I find this a huge problem, too often I over think something. Just sit down and do it. Often there isn't a trick or tip which is going to help. You just have to get on with it. When I think about this tip, I think about life. In life you just have to do what you do. There isn't any blog post which is going to tell you how to make life easy. Those hard and unmotivated times in your life, are the times that define you. The end of the story here is that you just have to do it. Get over it. I really enjoyed writing this blog post. It cleared up in my mind how I can motivate myself. This is a problem I face constantly so it helps me hugely. I almost think I have helped myself more that you guys. Comment down below on how you keep yourself motivated. I want to hear how you do it. |
